How to Create Your Company’s Values

Creating a set of core values for your company can help your team work more effectively towards the goals of the company and establish higher operational standards. These will also guide you to make the best hiring choices. Therefore, you need to ensure that you execute the right ways in creating your company’s values.

Here are some practical tips:

Finding Core Values of Your Team

The very first step in creating company’s values is for you and your team members is to take some time considering personal values. Collect written values from your dedicated team and start narrowing down and combining the values.

After creating a more concentrated list of personal values, you can email this list to your employees. Ask them for their feedback, particularly on what values they find more important.

Determine How to Apply these Values into Your Company

Once you have consolidated the list of the potential options, you can translate these values to guidelines of your company. For instance, if honesty is one of the core values identified by your team, this can easily be translated into operational guideline.

Determine how to integrate the core company values to every aspect of your business. Assign someone, or probably two people, to carefully examine every department in your company. Find ways to use your core values as guiding principles for operational procedures.

Communicate Core Values to Employees

Communicate your final list to your current employees. The later hires will not be instantly familiar with these, but this can be accomplished in several ways. Try displaying posters with the company values written on them. Mention them on footer or header notes attached to emails that are sent to the employees.

When creating your company’s values, you need to keep all these things in mind. Failure to execute these values can have negative impacts on your company or business.

Many companies are investing significant time and effort in creating company values. You should be doing the same to create the ideal values for your own company as well.
