Are you hiding out in your business? We’ve all heard that we need to work smart not hard. Well, that’s what social media can do.

Did you know that 3.1 billion people are using social media? That’s BANANAS. 11 people start using social media per second.

I’ll confess, I hideout. But we’re going to stop hiding out together!

Facebook is still the social media powerhouse.

80% of all internet users are here. Baby boomers and Millenials are the highest demographic. Even B2B companies can utilize marketing on this platform, as they are usually still using this platform as a distraction throughout the day. Create ads that speak directly to your audience.

YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine.

Video is continuing to be the preferred form of content and YouTube is the most used site on the web. Let’s be real, we all look for those How-To videos, am I right? Having an active channel will help you attract new visitors to your site.

Twitter is great for real-time appeal.

Although there are rumors of trouble in the Twitter world, the audience there is a force to be reckoned with. It supports 40 languages and has a heavy international presence. Global brands can take advantage of this and create excitement about upcoming launches.

LinkedIn is social media for professionals.

80% of marketers are using LinkedIn for professional purposes. It is a B2B marketer’s dream as you can connect with people in your target market in a very specific way. You can also use LinkedIn to recruit new talent for your company.

While these are the 4 major platforms I’m talking about here, let’s not forget about the power of Instagram and Pinterest.

Choosing the right social media networks are the first steps to building a strong presence and following.

Here are the 6 MUSTS when building your social media status:

1. Complete your profile.

This may seem trivial, but make sure this is branded and attractive to your ideal client.

2. Keep your branding consistent.

Use the same language and profile photo across all social channels so your customers will recognize you immediately.

3. Analyze your competitors.

Know what they are up to and what they are sharing. We need to understand their strategy and how we can utilize some of these tools for ourselves.

4. Connect with thought leaders and influencers.

Their customers will be part of your target audience and tap into that resource. Follow industry professionals. Watch and share with your audience. You’ll likely have similar clients and can build relationships with these people.

5. Share awesome content.

The most basic can be the most useful. Establish your personal brand and speak to your customers. But if you’re only sharing your own content, you’re not doing it right. 70% of posts should be adding value, 20% can be sharing other people’s posts, and 10% of posts will be selling yourself and your product.

6. Utilize a social media calendar.

This will help you stay organized and plan your posts ahead of time. If you have a virtual assistant, work with them to take the bulk of this on for you.
