The Truth is, Change is Hard!

I Love When I Have a Breakthrough

But I don’t love the breakdown that comes with the breakthrough. The truth is, change is hard! Even when you really want it.

There’s a reason for that, and it goes way back to our ancient ancestors. Back then, it was important to have stability because that’s what kept us alive. We evolved to like predictability, which means all of our instincts make us want to resist change. Change is unpredictable, and on top of it, it creates discomfort and pain. What do we do when we feel pain? We stop! It’s a survival tool.

Building a new habit, learning a new skill, failing at something, getting feedback or even having a new conversation can create pain, at least in the short term. That’s why we all tend to cling to our old habits and beliefs and deny new points of view. It feels better and life is far more predictable and stable that way, but it’s not going to get you where you want to go.

To do that, you’ve got to start looking at things in a new way and see the bigger picture of what could be. You have to set your sites past the short term pain of change and look toward the positive gain you’ll get when you stick with it.

You also need to take a step that most people miss – becoming aware of the personal habits and preferences you have that actually hold you back.

The Truth is, Change is Hard!

Being Smart and Creative is a Blessing and an Obstacle

As a leader or an entrepreneur, you probably already know exactly what I mean. Your personal gifts have helped to get you where you are right now, but it’s those very gifts that can hold you back because they also cover up your deficiencies. Who wants to look at those when you do these other things so well?

We instinctively lean on our natural talents, but by doing that continually, and not evaluating the bigger picture, you can fool yourself into thinking you’re changing in the short term, while you actually avoid the difficult work that creates the long term change you want. And you don’t even know it!

Becoming Aware is the Key to Positive Change and Growth

Most of the time we operate unconsciously. We’ve all driven somewhere and had no memory of the journey and that’s not the only time we operate on remote control. There’s so much that we’re not aware of, like the way we move, our patterned reactions to certain people or situations, those little habits and quirks that are so obvious to other people, yet we’re blind to them.

What we really want is to continually increase our capacity, so that we can grow and take on more, but as long as we remain invisible to ourselves, change is not going to be on the radar.

Ironically, it’s usually a pain that we face in our lives that makes us want to create a change. Instead, I want to encourage you to take control of your destiny. Start making changes on your own, so you can feel confident in all the domains of your life, without having to face a crisis first.

Imagine what it would be like to have a personal presence that’s so powerful that people turn to you for advice because you’re seen as a valuable resource. Or feeling like you’re in the driver’s seat in your life because you have an inspiring vision that’s pulling you forward. Think of what it would be like to easily bounce back from adversity and stress because you have a variety of tools you can use to do it. What would it be like to love your life and your career because they’re both so fulfilling?

These things aren’t a fantasy. You can have them and I want to help you do it.

Transformation Comes When You Think Big and Take Tiny Steps

No matter what you want in your life, you just need a step by step strategy to get there. Designing a clear path to follow makes it easier to produce the results you want.

1. You need a clear and powerful vision.

Think big. Get clear about where you want to go and consider the challenges, boundaries, and beliefs that are holding you back from owning your greatness. Sometimes it’s not easy to pinpoint them yourself. This is where coaching can really help. Together, we can identify how you can make the transformation you want as easy as possible, by making little shifts that fit into your current work and life routines.

2. Break it down into small steps

When you break down the challenges you face into smaller and more manageable pieces, making changes in your life becomes less overwhelming and much easier to do. By taking small steps consistently, you gain momentum, and the cumulative progress you make because of it will amaze you! It’s all about connecting the dots, one at a time, so you can get what you care about.

3. Become accountable.

When you start looking at what you truly want, you can expand with excitement or contract with fear. By having someone there with you to hold you accountable to your greatness, continually encouraging you to take those important steps toward what you want, you’ll be able to expand with ease and grace because you aren’t in it alone.

The life, career, business, marriage, family – whatever you want – is all at your fingertips. You just have to start with the little things, then move to the bigger things. Keep moving forward consistently and it will all come together for you.

You deserve the life you want! Leave me a comment below about one of the changes you’d like to make in your life. I can’t wait to hear from you!
